See, this is why dragons have such prickly personalities. They have to put up with this for approximately forever before they're big enough to intimidate anything. They need to make up for lost time.

Dragon aging is weird.  They mature pretty quickly, but then they can potentially live for millenia.  My headcanon is that in dragon culture, a young dragon is legally adult when they learn to speak.  Yes, it was inspired in part by Elder Scrolls.

Your Whimsey kicks ass and I wish she was canon. :(
That charming personality is something I keep wanting to see more of. :D She has the potential to be as popular as any of the mane 6.
Plus, weather affecting breath? With G4 pegasi in the picture, there's a whole new world of possibilities for this character!

Let's do math to know spike's actual age: assume twilight was about 5 yrs old back when she hatched spike's egg and now she's about 20: Spike is 15 pony years old

Whimsey Weatherbe! :wow: That's the name of the female dragon from the My Little Pony Film "My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure" (My Little Pony Generation 3.5), it makes sense since the design you made for your comic reminded me of her from the beginning of this chapter. Good job for introducing her on your comic!

I wonder if in some future season in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic will introduce her in the show. That'd be cool! :D

Trivia: The movie I mentioned was the last My Little Pony Film released in the Generation 3 era, before Hasbro moved on to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

"Wait, why does she have hair"?

80s rule of cartooning, if you want a character to look female just give them long hair or long eyelashes, regardless as to whether the animal in question would actually have hair or eyelashes.

Hahaha, yeah, reminds me of a running joke from "The Inexplicable Adventures of Bob" -- "I guess it's a girl. It's got eyelashes, only female monsters have long eyelashes, right?"

Personally on reptiles I prefer subtler cues for femininity like the shape of their eyes, face and body, unless they're of a type that has a mane or plume, in which case both sexes have hair/feathers/something similar to hair, though there's no reason a male dragon can't have long hair in that case, like that purple river dragon from the pilot, and I think one of the dragons from the episode this story takes place in had a mop-top, so I guess there is precedent for dragons with hair in this series...

Looking back at this character's original design though this one's definitely an improvement, even with the hair. Ergh, gen 3 *shudder*.

EVERYTHING mlp:FIM is an improvement over gen 3.

while FiM Spike is adorable, interesting, endearing, and has a lot of personality,  I dare you to even tolerate gen 3 Spike...

Gen 3 has simply no connections, no relationships between characters, no characters depth or feelings.

and these empty eyes... devouring our souls... *shudder*

-
subtle or not cues for a girl is fine for me IF she's not simply a derivative version of the Standard Male Boy Hero (aka "Mickey in dress", "Pink Sonic", "Drag queen Donald" and so on). A female character needs to be her own design from start.

Well, yes, but this is a fan comic isn't it? So it's not canon to MLP:FIM, I'm just saying that while at first I criticised the hair and bow, but knowing the character is based on a previous one, comparing the two this one does look significantly better.
Also, Spike was also in gen 1, and while he was kind of annoying he had his moments.

Aaaanyway

Indeed, the origin of rule 63 right there, but then again there have been some good characters whose origins were originally simply female versions of their male counterparts -- Babs Bunny (Tiny Toons) and Dot Warner (Animaniacs), for instance, pretty much the same character designs as their male co-stars but you quickly forget that because they have distinct personality traits that make them stand out.

yes, of course, it's a fan comic, everything can be done :)

"comparing the two this one does look significantly better."

yes, Karzahnii did a good work with her for the comics. She's in the same style and still distinct from Spike, different attitude, sassy and all.
I didn't think a lot about these old characters before FiM. and it's very interesting how their recreation brought them a lot.
and now I'm thinking maybe the show could use again that character too, with a cuter and better design like Spike.

"Babs Bunny (Tiny Toons) and Dot Warner (Animaniacs), for instance, pretty much the same character designs as their male co-stars but you quickly forget that because they have distinct personality traits that make them stand out"

true. Babs is exactly Buster, but her animation, voice, attitude and personality makes her a distinct character. And it tells a lot about how much animation, moves and acting matters.
Still, I would have appreciate if they have drawn her differently: a stylized bunny of course, but with a different body/nose/face shape base than Buster.
