That's not how kites work; the string in your drawing is attached to where the "tail" of the kite should be (I'm not sure what is the name for that part in English). The string should be attached to the "underside" of the kite, the flat face that faces down, by at least two strings (one on the front most tip and another at the tail, forming a triangle; there are other ways, but I think this is the simplest), it needs to be attached that way to keep the kite at the correct angle in relation to the wind.
