Drifting

It started simply. With an earthquake, well, as simple as an earthquake can be in an uninhabited  region of the Himalayas. No one took any real notice of it. Not until a whole mountain started floating. 

People thought it was a hoax at first. A social media prank. But it became clear real soon that this was no prank. There really was a mountain flying around the sky. It wasn’t real, it didn’t seem real, it couldn’t be real. It defied science. And there it was.

Some people were scared, and some people even tried getting close, and landing on it. China even tried blowing it out of the sky as it came near. Of course all that did was create a few huge boulders that floated around the mountain, making it even more difficult to get closer to it. 

A few people did manage to land on it. Said there wan’t anything remarkable about it, decides it floating of course. It was apparently stable. Although they all got a strange feeling about it. I believe “All Tingly” was a common response when asked what it was like. 

But soon, those few that landed on the mountain had been quarantined. They got real sick, but that was about all the information we got. The Scientists that were on the ground near where the mountain had lifted from the Earth were quarantined as well. No one could really say how, or with what. After that, the major governments all banned anyone landing on it. There were regular fly byes, to make sure that no one was getting near. 

Things were quiet for a while. There were of course constant up dates, websites, and even a television show or two dedicated to the mountain and its current location. I think a religion or two had even popped up, worshiping the religion. They were the first ones that started calling it Pamola, after some North American Indian God. 

Pamola had become old news. Yeah, it was still there, and people were still trying to figure out, but it wasn’t on everyones mind anymore. Until the small villages around the gaping hole popped up on the news again. Violence, amazing feats, and more quarantines. 

It wasn’t long before stories started leaking into the internet. One story I clearly remember was an old lady defending her family with what looked light a ray gun from a man with what could have only been a taser on crack. That’s what we told ourselves of course. 

The violence and stories spread and spread, slowly at first, like tendrils or rivers threw the mountains and plains.  The CDC said it was a bad version of the Flu, and it made people go mad, and increase adrenaline. But that couldn’t explain the stories of flying people. Eventually the ‘disease’ spread to the modern world, huge cities in China and India, and there was no stopping the media frenzy that followed. The people had a different word for it then the CDC did. Something else came out of that hole, something kept Pamola in the air.

Sorry. I found you threw a Tumblr repost of your Adventure Time Pins, and going threw your gallery I found this, and this whole story just popped into my head and I couldn't get it out. I even had to research some sort of name for it. I hope you liked it.
